Opening of Drury Lane Sees Old Favorites Depart
The Drury Lane season opens under Mr. Bunn with Melpomene out, Euterpe and Terpsichore in, a new curtain, and uneven reception. Performances feature Miss Rainforth as Clara in Donizetti’s L Elisir d Amore, with praised ballet The Peri by Carlotta Grisi and Petipa, while Templeton struggles with falsetto and Leffler’s Michel disappoints. The piece includes crowd reactions, a chaotic last act, and notes on scenery, costumes, and a witty cast.
