Drunken parson’s removal urged for aggravated parish abuse

In a parish case the rector since 1837 was accused of habitual intoxication and riotous conduct in a public house with parishioners, leading to church desertion. He was imprisoned in 1843–44 and later acquitted of felonious cutting but convicted of a common assault. A commission found aggravated misconduct and urged deprivation. Court postpones final decision to next session.
