Petition on Protection of Young Females in 1844 Lords
A petition presented to the House of Lords on May 17 1844 by the Society for the Protection of Young Females argues laws fail to shield young women from coercion and vice. It cites thousands in London isolated by poverty and lack of occupation, describes brothels run by locals and foreigners, and urges stringent laws to end trafficking and seduction with prosecutions targeting keepers and procurers.
