Manufacturing England's Voice in 1843 Corn Law Debate

A crowded critique asks if Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Birmingham and other hubs would have supported the Corn Law in 1815 and argues that nine tenths of the populace should not be ruled by a miserable minority. It laments the representative system and warns of ongoing dissent against protectionist policy.

The Sonnambula at Drury Lane and Thames Regattas

A mixed London theatre page reviews La Sonnambula with Bellini flavor at Drury Lane where Persians and Cerito shine amid a crowded audience including royal visitors. Sheridan Knowles on Julius Caesar draws praise as does Standigl in Sappho, while Fortunio and The Little Devil receive attention and praise for Matthews and Vestris. Thames regattas received royal patronage and robust local support, with plans for July Putney events, prizes for watermen and amateurs, and substantial subscriptions.
