The negotiators Count de Buol Baron de Bourqueney and Lord Westmoreland have met several times in Vienna on May 17 to conduct final conferences regarding responses from Paris and London.
Despatch dated May 1 1855 notes Russian activity around Sevastopol left Mamelon and a growing camp above the Belbek. It reports arrivals of the 3rd Buffs at Balaklava and the Alma with Guard drafts reaching Kazatch Bay and Balaklava.

Paris dispatch reports Pianori was guillotined at five this morning at La Roquette near Pere la Chaise. Large crowds watched as troops held back spectators, while authorities offered a life sparing deal for confederate names, which Pianori refused. The Abbé Hugon assisted during the night.
