History of the Union in Ireland and British policy tensions

A detailed discussion of Irish history preceding the 1800 Union, challenging Sir Jonah Barrington’s charges against English ministers, weighing the roles of Pitt, Grattan, Lord Northington, and the Rotunda Convention. The piece argues Ireland’s division and the 1782 settlement created an unstable state, and that Pitt moved toward the Union after 1797 to avert imperial collapse while balancing governance with public sentiment. It also touches on royal affairs, construction plans, and appointments in Britain and India.
