A devastating storm wrecked the brig Exmouth off Islay during the night of Sunday the 25th, killing about 240 emigrants bound for Canada. Survivors John Cleat, John Scott and George Lightford reached rocks near the shore after abandoning the wreck, while Captain Isaac Booth and most crew perished.
