Ireland Briefs From Den and Destin on O Connell Billys
In Den, March 23, Earl of Lisscorp arrives in Dublin to assume duties and stays at Elvidge’s Hotel with Anthony Blake. At the Repeal Association meeting Alderman Rooney presided, while Mr O Connell’s long letter attacks sections of the Lord St Germane bill deeming it absurd and wide in scope. The piece critiques section eleven as transporting any non family member in a proclaimed district after sunset. A later note covers Carrick’s coroner inquest and Carrick’s death, detailing testimony of his servant and doctors, plus public reaction and local executions in Longford, including Buchanan and M Gney.
