A public Ragged School event in Jurston Street Lambeth drew Lord Ashley Lord and Lady Ashley and other dignitaries to a five to six pm treat for about 300 children. A fine new full rigged ship belonging to Mr William Hodgson launched at Monkwearmouth shore Sunderland on Monday afternoon but was upset while launching on the wrong side so the Ware river channel is obstructed by the vessel lying on her broadside in the river. No lives were lost though several people were injured. A separate inquest at the Pine Apple Tavern Westminster examined the death of seven month old Thomas Williams found suffocation due to the mother’s pressure and returned an accidental suffocation verdict. Also a woman Elizabeth Vokins attempted suicide at Grove Place Camberwell and was found dead by hanging in the back kitchen after her family left for church.
