Bank reports strong early capital rise at March meeting
At the first annual and second ordinary meeting held at Freemasons’ Tavern on March 1 1865 directors present a first annual report and accounts to December 31 1864. The bank shows £100000 initial capital subscribed quickly and capital increased toward half a million with new issues applied for. Over 2000 proprietors and deposits of £32518 12s 6d are noted. A long term mortgage valuation is £43707 with short term advances of £1405 14s 5d. The bank highlights 800 public meetings and 350 agencies with modest preliminary expenses. Profit and loss show £7614 13s 11d. recommended allocations include 20% of preliminary expenses, 15% for Alliance Building Society, a dividend of 7 10s per cent, and £2000 to reserve. Three directors and two auditors retire and stand for re-election.
