In a February 24 1855 dispatch from Sebastopol Lord Raglan reports improved weather though cold nights and bright sunshine. Russian forces fortify left heights overlooking the Tchernaya valley while 1500 French-led troops under Monet attack garrison positions near Sikerman and Careening Bay, suffering losses. The 44th alt report notes rapid weather shifts from heat to cold and mentions new Russian batteries later destroyed on the 26th. Feb. Rumor speaks of a French officer in treasonable correspondence with plans of the siege. A court-martial rumor about General Castrobert Be is doubted by the Doilye NQus. The piece also references a Ceh railroad and pigeons near Kadikoi.

In a dated dispatch from Sebastopol on February 24 1855 the narrative reports Omar Pasha’s detailed account of the Russian attack on Eupatoria on February 17 and the Turkish success. It notes gallantry of Turkish troops the generalissimo’s proven leadership and the moral boost to the army. It credits English French and Turkish ships with support and records French army losses including a naval officer.
From Eupatoria February 1855 Lord Raglan receives report of a dawn attack by sixty battalions of infantry, cavalry, and artillery. Turkish Egyptian troops, French and British ships repel repeated assaults, with 87 killed and 277 wounded among Egyptians and 7 officers among the dead. Russians retreat in three directions. French detachment and several ships praised for aid.
