Letters on a Proposed Law to Ban Collections for Noncharitable Uses

In a letter to the editor the writer criticizes a suggested act to outlaw money collections except for religious or charitable uses and to require responsible pledges for large sums. The piece contends such a law would curb political agitation, hamper reform efforts, and cites Lord Brougham and others as targets of satire while arguing the proposal would extinguish the Repeal Association within months.
