Fire at Kings Cross Fever Hospital Causes Alarm
On Monday between two and three o clock a fire broke out at the Fever Hospital King's Cross near Battle Bridge. Flames erupted through the nurses ward roof. attempts to evacuate patients succeeded for the most part though some beds and furniture were damaged by water and removal. Fire brigades led by Mr. Braidwood fought the blaze but could not fully extinguish it. The origin was traced to a defective grate. Insurance covers the damage at the Went of England Office. In a separate Thames Tunnel Company meeting at Radley's Hotel, Hawes chaired a report lamenting poor patronage and prospects for selling the tunnel to a railway company as the facility sits in a degraded state.
