Benedicts Crusaders at Drury Lane a grand opera spectacle

The Crusaders, Benedicts new opera at Drury Lane, dazzles with elaborate scenery and a democratic libretto by M de St George and Mr Boon. It reimagines Conrad’s murder during the Crusades with Bohemond as king, amid lavish tableaux, grand choruses, and impressive vocal feats by Miss Romer and Miss Rainforth, though the production draws sharp critique of the women’s shrieks and stage noise.
