History of Union Continued First Debate Grattan
The last Irish Parliament session opened January 15 1600 with no Union mention in the throne speech. Sir Lawrence Parsons led a challenge to preserve the 1782 Constitution and demand an independent resident legislature. Lord Castlereagh avoided direct refutation, adjourning to another vote while the debate heated. Grattan reappears to defend Irish independence as Parliament reels from the stakes of the Union. Grattan’s illness did not deter a remarkable oath and return as he entered the House amid standing applause.

The Dukedom of Sussex Privilege Committee Hearing
The House of Lords, Tuesday June 25, debated the Sir Augustus D Este claim to the dukedom of Sussex. Lord Chancellor and leading peers attended as a Privileges Committee heard testimony from Miss Augusta D Este and Lady Virginia Murray about letters, a journal, prayer book, and family papers found in an iron chest. Witnesses described Rome marriage rumors and the claimant’s paternity with the Duke of Sussex, while legal counsel argued admissibility of the evidence and related testimonies.
