The Friar’s Clever Pass Through Roman Customs
A wealthier traveler and a Capuchin friar share a tale of evading taxes at Rome’s gate. The rich man fears duties on gold trinkets and tricks the friar into concealing the treasure under his tunic. At the border, officials doubt the friar’s load but are amused and let everyone pass.

Imperial Parliament Fray Est Bill Brothels Power
The Lords debate on a bishop’s bill to empower magistrates to suppress brothels, with private discussions about excluding strangers, amid sharp exchanges on public morality and the West End vice trade. The Commons briefly opens with petitions on post office letter openings and sugar duties, as ministers defend a differential duty while opponents press for broader reform.
