History and Politics The Bishops the Working Clergy and the Rev Sydney Smith
A critical essay attacks Rev. Sydney Smith for compromising reform by becoming a prebendary of St. Pauls. It argues he abandons parochial clergy, supports unequal patronage, and excuses bishops while praising reformers like Luther and Moliere. It references letters, church rates, and parliamentary intrigue.

Gunpowder Explosion Destroys Sunk Schooner Glamorgan
A second 2500 pound gunpowder charge blew the Glamorgan apart as she lay wrecked in the Thames channel near Gravesend. Soundings showed seven to seven and a half fathoms after the blast and a bright water cone rose 30 to 40 feet high. The Thames charity schools anniversary and the East India Company's Museum opening at Leadenhall Street are also noted with noble attendance and exhibits.
