Remarkable Misstep in Trial Over Seduction and Paternity

In a trial before the Chief Baron a key witness misled the court by linking the defendant to her child, prompting the judge to prevent recalling the witness. The jury found for the defendant as to paternity, and a later rule on misdirection sought to challenge the action as a trespass by the master of a daughter. Legal debate followed on whether loss of service is needed for maintenance of such an action, with several barons weighing moral and legal implications.
