Tragic Inquest Over Walworth Boy Aged Ten
A coroner in Surrey held a long inquiry at the Lord Nelson Walworth into the death of ten year old Robert Artus who hanged himself in his father's unfinished house after his mother accused him of dishonesty over a small coin. The jury found the death occurred in a state of temporary insanity produced by fright. Also, a separate inquest at Hampton Court revealed a fatal error in dispensing laudanum instead of tincture of rhubarb to Mrs Sarah Newbury aged 87, whose death followed within hours. The verdict attributed the death to the mistaken medicine and the inquest noted the risk of such mix ups in care.

Escape at Quimper Prison Ends With Five Fugitives
Five prisoners fled Quimper prison in Finisterre using a watch-spring saw to cut bars and a bed-sack rope to descend 24 feet. They crossed a 12 foot wall via improvised espaliers, but one climber broke a leg and cried out, alerting guards. Gendarmes pursued, none yet recaptured.
