Moonbeams from Cucumbers The Chartist Land Scheme

A critical review of the Chartist Co operative Land Company in 1846 1847 detailing its proposed scheme to buy land build dwellings for members by ballot and to create a self perpetuating capital loop. It notes legal registration problems stock subscription obstacles and the misalignment between promised profits and real title to lands. It compares the scheme to a perpetual motion notion and warns of risk to depositors shareholders and borrowers while tracing the company’s failed attempts to legalise operations.
