Berkeley Named To Succeed In Ionian Troops

Major-General Sir George Henry Frederick Berkeley to succeed to the coraband of the troops in the Ionian Islands on the return of Lieutenant General Sir Oward Douglas. Berkeley, soon to arrive in the country, is praised for his service in Egypt, Salamanca, Vittoria, the Pyrenees, Nivelle, and Toulouse. He is currently at Corfu, acting as colonel on the staff since April 1835.

Earl of Cardigan Rejected for Ten Years by Club Vote

The Earl of Cardigan was balloted for membership in the Senior United Service club on Tuesday, receiving 28 white and 166 black balls, totaling 194, and was rejected. Other candidates and the major of the eleventh hussars were admitted. A report also notes wreck findings on the Pollux near Elba and a police inquiry in London where a girl accused a Division A policeman of seduction. the alderman later deemed the charge unfounded and directed care for the girl.
