The Collier family tragedy and double suicides in Nottingham
An account from Nottingham details a shocking case of alleged mal-treatment and financial distress leading to the self-destruction of two brothers, William and Samuel Collier, both joiners. Their elderly father Samuel 73 and sister Elizabeth 37 were involved. a later inquiry at the station examined witnesses, revealing dire finances and possible motives, with the old man later found in dire straits. The inquest concluded the deaths were by self harm in a state of temporary derangement. Also noted were various local theatre notices and charitable gifts.

Sporting Intelligence and Yacht Club Notes Patched
Gambling odds for Tattersall races show wide fields led by The Hero and Jenny Wren with 25 to 1 bets on others. The Royal Thames Yacht Club gains exemptions from airport dues in Madeira and Cadiz as a new six ton yacht is added by Captain Shuldham. Regatta results recount multiple heats and victories across amateur scullers and Eight-oared boats, with Oxford and Trinity crews achieving top finishes amid praise for the event’s organization. Serious crime reports follow with vitriol poisoning case at Wandsworth, a nursemaid accused in court, and a string of royal appointments and insolvency notices.
