Memoir of the late Mr. Haydon and rescue efforts for his family

A meeting at Serjeant Talfourd's chambers in Serjeant's Inn discussed aiding the widow and daughter of the late painter Benjamin Haydon. Attendees included Lord Morpeth, Sir J. C. Hobhouse, Dr. Bowring, and Sir R Peel, who pledged substantial sums and pensions. Trustees were appointed, subscriptions topped near £600 with pensions from the Queen and Lady Peel already in place. The article then recounts Haydon’s life, career, patrons, struggles with the Royal Academy, and major works leading up to his death while painting.
