Baker charged with attempting suicide after river rescue near London Bridge
A master baker appeared before the Lord Mayor charged with attempting death by his own action. Police say two watermen rescued him from the Thames after he leapt from London Bridge in a state of intoxication. He was taken to a public house then to Guy's Hospital for treatment. A bag with 14 pounds 30 shillings in gold and 4 pounds 2 pence in silver was found on him. Musard, a Horsleydown waterman, and another witness reported hearing a splash and seeing him drift past the second arch before being saved. The surgeon at Guy's Hospital noted the man was drunk.

The Lord Mayor Interrogates a Distressed Defendant Inquest
A courtroom scene reveals a defendant denying self harm amid heavy drinking. He claims no motive for attempting suicide, insisting his home and life are stable. The Lord Mayor pressures him on drink’s role, warns against future drinking, and bail is arranged. Additional reports cover theft, public nuisance, robberies, and a murder inquiry, with various magistrates remanding suspects to trial.
Inquiry into swindling schemes and postal irregularities
Mr Robinson reports on daily posting of letters and circulars by suspected parties before his last statement, noting a sharp drop after publication. He ties the conduct to loan societies and railway stock schemes, citing Captain Routledge as a promoter and listing related irregularities with mail redirection and public notices. Elliott agrees prosecutions are hard but urges continued inquiry.
