Petition against Corn Law changes urged by Ward letter

Corn Laws Defeated Feargus O Connors At Leeds Meeting

A large Leeds gathering on Tuesday defeated Feargus O Connor and his followers who called for Corn Law repeal. The article mocks O Connor and notes his opposition to recessional reform, while praising the orderly portion of the crowd and predicting modest results for radical agitators. It also mentions a planned dinner for Mr Hume by Middlesex supporters. Additionally a young man, Samuel Herrporth, 22, of Portman-place Edgware-road, jumped from a second floor window during a smallpox attack and is not expected to survive.
