Ireland since the union and the Catholic Army bill politics

A historical review outlines the progress of misunderstandings between the king and the cabinet over the Army and Navy Service Bill. It details the March debates, ministerial dismissals, and parliamentary maneuvering, including Lord Howick’s delays, Bankes committee resolutions, and Perceval’s negotiated positions. The piece cites Lord Eldon, Grenville, and Pitt as key figures in the shifting power, with reflections on royal prerogative, ministerial responsibility, and the constitutional tensions shaping the crisis.
