Police Reports from Guildhall and Local Court
In Guildhall Tuesday Mr George Simmons faced a show cause hearing over a church rate paid for a lecture and other charges. Frazer, parish churchwarden, defended the rate while Simmons argued objections about the billing and clergy fees. Aldermen and Sir C Marshall supported the rate, with Frazer affirming legal oversight by churchwardens. In a separate case, Sarah Williams, a gipsy-appearance woman about 28, was charged after a fortune telling scheme led to theft of a watch and dresses from Elizabeth Goldsmith. Williams was committed for trial with bonds to prosecute.
