The Election to the Bishopric of Hereford unrest

Report on Hereford cathedral Chapter proceedings for electing a successor to Bishop Musgrave. The dean and canons cite and elect Renn Dickson Hampden despite opposition from some clergy and honorary prebendaries. Oxford Heads of Houses oppose Hampden appointment

A petition from twenty four Oxford heads of houses protests reports about Dr Hampden's proposed see of Hereford. It asserts his sound religious belief while noting concerns and a few signatories in support. Four heads reportedly favour the object but did not sign. three colleagues show sympathy with the movement.
