Causes and remedies for national distress in Britain and Holland
The Stadtholder asks merchants to assess trade decline and paths to restore it. The analysis contrasts Holland's commercial rise and fall with Britain’s durable growth, noting taxation pressure, global competition, and Britain's broad industrial system. It outlines Part I on industrial development, productive power, fluctuations, banking, overproduction, and the ensuing remedies, tracing England's rise from Venice to empire and the shift from tariffs to exports and manufacturing expansion.
