Court case reveals forged letters in Ferrers scandal

In a lengthy trial, Miss Smith’s mother and others testified that anonymous letters and forged writings, allegedly from Earl Ferrers, targeted a planned marriage. The defense argued handwriting forgery and impractical accusations, culminating in a nonsuit for the plaintiff as key letters could not be proven authentic.

The Irish impostor who posed as a brother at Hammersmith

In Cousin Street and Trafalgar Street cases, a man posing as a missing brother deceived three women, promising gifts and seeking money. He was caught when theft and a fire scheme surfaced, witnesses testified, and he was committed for trial at Newgate along with co-defendants. The theft and deception involved selling goods and an insurance policy traced to a Trafalgar Street property.
