The Earl of Shaftesbury Honored by Lords
The Marquis of Lansdowne moved to address Her Majesty praising Earl of Shaftesbury for 36 years as chairman of the House committees and private committees. Illness prevents further service, the Lords urge gracious consideration of his eminent and cascading services. Lords Stanway and Browning praised his diligence and impartiality. The address was agreed to with no dissent and will be presented by the Lords with white staves. The House adjourned. The next day their lordships prepared petitions, adjourned at six, and discussed a criminal trials reform bill aimed at clarifying judges' doubts in Birds case.
