Attempted assassination of Monaghan magistrate shocks era
A report from December 3 describes an ineffectual attack on Mr. J. W. Johnston, JP, at Ivyhill near Emyvale after Petty Sessions. A gunshot struck his arm but failed to prove fatal. The motive remains unclear though tensions over levy payments and Relief Act funding are suggested by observers and police efforts continue.
