Apprehension of Birkenhead Swindlers at Court

A female duo and their son were charged at Birkenhead Police Court with obtaining goods by false pretences from local tradesmen. The women known as Mary Green and Jane Green used multiple aliases including Wilson and Cooper. They and their accomplices, linked to the Guardian Society, were reported for lodging at Lord Street and Price Street, taking goods from retailers, and leaving without paying. Police, aided by Mr Reay, pursued leads across Birkenhead and Manchester, with items seized and witnesses detailing prior offences. The case involved many shops and a large haul of clothing, with the couple’s son detained and the elder woman to Manchester on new charges.
