Death of Viscount Melbourne and dramatic salon debuts

A lengthy notice reviews the death of Lord Melbourne and charts his career from Whig rise to First Lord of the Treasury. It details his cautious Home Office tenure, later prime ministership under William IV and Victoria, and the 1841 parliamentary downfall, with reflections on his eloquence, leadership, and public role. It also touches on contemporary musical performances and theater reviews of Mlle Stopel, M. Vivier, Mrs Kean, and other stage figures in a richly textured but unsparingly era-typical scene.
