A collage of short items from British periodicals, noting local mischief, social quips, travels, and small incidents. Aeolian Hall theatre and concert rooms set to rise in Oxford Street

A new theatre and attached concert rooms are rapidly nearing completion on Oxford Street extending to Castle Street. The design features ornate arabesque interior panels, a large gallery, a northern seating area for instrumentalists, and a spacious vocal platform. Access from Castle Street leads to the concert rooms while Oxford Street entrance opens to the theatre galleries and boxes. The complex aims to surpass Haymarket and English Opera House in size, with a horse-shoe audience arrangement and a substantial brick separation between theatre and concert spaces. Preparations suggest completion by February next.
