A dense critique rails at the Spectator for defending King Ernest of Hanover against liberal charges. It warns Cumberland’s actions threaten constitutional rights, foresee civil conflict in Britain, and outline dangers of Tory alignment, Catholic O'Connell opposition, and a Lyndhurst marriage note amid confusion over Lady Lyndhurst's parentage.
Windsor and nearby towns staged a grand welcome for Queen Victoria on her first public visit. Archways rose across roads, schools lined the routes, and crowds cheered as the royal cavalcade passed. Decorations featured flags flowers and imperial crowns in dahlias crafted by local artisans.
Two triumphal arches were erected for Queen Victoria at Windsor, one at the bridge entrance from Eton and one at the Long Walk. Both were built largely of evergreens and flowers with lanterns and colored lamps, the Long Walk arch featuring bold inscribed “Welcome Victoria” and royal arms.
