A German Student Duel and A Ballot Treatise Review

A long critique of LITERARY CHRONICLE narrative sections includes a German student duel with full combat detail in a Gottingen hall. It also covers a persuasive pamphlet on the ballot by a Working Man and its rebuttal to Sidney Smith, amid broader 1800s public notices and events.

Royal Assent Delayed as Parliament Counted Out

Impatience and curiosity rose in the Commons when royal assent to many bills was postponed because the Duke of Argyle arrived with the commission after the house had been counted out. Several bills including the Poor Rates Collection and Metropolis Courts passed, with debates on slave trade, poor law, and police measures preceding adjournment.
