Political Turmoil and Reform Debates Highlight 1826 Chronicle

In August 1826 the Weeely Chronicle reports riots and clashes around Sir Charles Wetherell, Pride’s Purge reference, and public clashes over reform. It notes the Nassau balloon ascent near Mansion House, a chaotic scene with attacks by a mob, and discussions of Whig opposition, plus parliamentary satire. The piece covers Wetherell’s death after a carriage accident near Maidstone, the inquest results attributing it to a concussion, and funeral movements to Berkeley Square.
