Not Guilty Verdict in Gloucester Stroud Assault Case
In a Gloucester Crown case the jury found the prisoner not guilty of murder after a corporal assault on a woman in Stroud. The judge discharged the prisoner, who staggered from the dock. In Newcastle Addison Potter was sentenced to two months in gaol with security for good behavior. In Laisden a pair were acquitted after a mock trial for robbery. At Moonpves, Baron Pennefather presided over Irish murder trials with one man convicted and three acquitted, the judge condemning the system that could lead to capital punishment and urging restraint against vigilante acts. The acquitted prisoners were released.
