The Tahiti Crisis and French Protectorate Shock
A British letter from Tahiti details French coercion under Admiral Duvett Thouars, including demands for money, royal regalia, and the exile of Queen Pomare. It describes arrests, sieges, and deportations, with reports of armed interference, ship movement, and proclamations marking a state of siege as English residents fear for life and property.
