Government Railways Plan Narrowly Sanctioned by Parliament

The Government Resolutions passed Thursday night with few objections. They require a certificate of sanction from meetings representing one third of company capital before Bills can be read a third time. Three fifths of that third must assent in order to apply to Parliament. The plan aims to prevent risky lines from proceeding without adequate support, urging dissolution and deposit return if Standing Orders are not met. Parliament supports the approach, despite minor dissent from Lord George Bentinck and Mr Disraeli who warn of overreach.
