A dated London call to working men warns against Chartist violence amid rising continental reforms. It cautions delegates, questions promises of universal suffrage, and argues for calm, lawful action while outlining risks to social order and the Empire.
At a meeting of the British Servants Protection Society in Circus Street Bryanston Square the address to Queen Victoria was adopted. It pleads for protection of one million four hundred thousand domestic servants and condemns foreign competition, urging government support and relief measures for loyal British workers.
Mr Smith O'Brien and the Irish Confederation arrived at the Paris Hotel de Ville to present their address. Lamartine addressed the Irish delegation and other Irish voices, reaffirming France's pacific stance, opposition to foreign intervention, and commitment to equality among nations while urging unity among Irish factions. He rejected foreign patronage and warned against domestic strife, favoring peace and reform over conquest or rebellion.
In Frankfort the Assembly discusses elections and rules for a German National Parliament. A federal Senate and Chamber of Representatives are proposed with a 70 000 to 1 representation ratio, plus federal powers over military, foreign affairs, commerce, civil and criminal law, and a federal tribunal. The assembly also endorses Schleswig Holstein union, Poland sympathy, and triggers for convocation deadlines.
