Lord George Bentinck and Irish policy delusion exposed

The piece ridicules Lord George Bentinck for his Irish policy critique and mockingly describes his financial theatrics and public self-flattery. It portrays him as a vain demagogue and contrasts his empty calculations with the political fallout from Ireland's famine era. It notes Labouchere's sharp rebuttal and the House's mixed reactions amid feeing of factional tension.

Protests in Lords over Irish Poor Law inquiry fears

A long record of dissent argues against a rushed inquiry into Irish Poor Relief. Critics warn the measure risks permanent legislation from a temporary emergency, urging careful study of past committees and reports dating from 1795 to 1836 before any change.

Commission of Lunacy Inquiry into Rev Benjamin Lewes

A commission opened at the Coach and Horses Inn near the Duke of Northumberland seat in Isleworth to assess the mental state of Rev. Benjamin Lewes rector of Kitrheden Carmarthenshire now at Wyke House Brentford. Evidence showed prior mental illness since 1846 after a fall from a horse and later delusions of poverty and debt, with concerns about his property and fear of debt collectors. The inquiry heard testimony from Captain Davis MP William Williams Dr Costello Dr Conolly and Sir A Morison before a verdict anticipated in March 1846.
