Sunday car crash injures four west of Groundbirch on Hart Highway

A Sunday collision on the Hart Highway near Groundbirch sent all occupants of both vehicles to hospital. George Rodgers and Kay Inkman plus Frank Kowalski were in the station wagon. Demerlem eester alone in a 1963 dodge. Rodgers was pinned and required cutting equipment. he sustained a badly broken leg. Blowing snow and poor visibility were listed as causes. No charges were laid.

Fire damages Roun del Cafe kitchen and vents

The Roun del Cafe suffered a kitchen fire around 4 45 p m yesterday. Firefighters from the local department contained the blaze in the exhaust vent system caused by grease buildup, with CO2 extinguishers and some water used. Damage is about 200 dollars, repair and cleanup expected within three days. proprietor Mr Yee was present at the front counter.

Village of Chetwynd reports small 1963 surplus

Auditors statement for 1963 shows a small surplus of 3585.46 for the first full year of operation. Included are 2212.53 uncollected current taxes and 344.98 arrears from prior year, with capital assets including last year’s sewer system at 197271.70. A pamphlet copy will be mailed with tax notices later.

CMHC Official Outlines NHA at Legion Hall Meeting

CMHC district manager Mr. Dick Bond explained the National Housing Act aims and loan conditions during a Wednesday night Legion Hall session. He noted CMHC administers NHA among housing acts, with direct government loans used where private mortgage funding is scarce, such as in Chetwynd, and warned buyers to budget for furnishings with around $1000 extra. mortgages commonly run 25 years with payments covering principal interest and taxes.
