Arrow Transfer of Vancouver holds the contract to move a large diesel and gas power unit weighing 108 tons to the new addition at the BC Hydro station. The unit is one of two to be installed and will generate 3 000 kilowatts.
One man died and another was seriously injured in a January crash on the Hart Highway near the Microwave Tower west of Mt Lemoray. Stanley Chuba of Swan Hills Alberta drove a 1958 Meteor. Herbert Trainer of Prince George died. Farry Chingy of Willow Flats aided a driver to a pumping station. first aid by John Bagg and H Beamer. Conditions blamed on warm weather causing frost and slippery roads.
Trustees of School District 59 report Chetwynd schools anticipate enrolment surpassing 700 by fall 1964. Grade One growth drives the rise with over 100 new registrations. Six additional classrooms are needed. proposal to the Department of Education seeks six rooms, potentially altering last year's referendum and construction plans district-wide.
Health Minister Eric Martin replies to the Chetwynd and District Hospital Society letter of July seeking a hospital, stating approval is not possible without a permanent large enough population. He notes ambulance service progress and that seriously ill residents can be taken to Peace River area facilities. A four-man delegation from the Hospital Society and Hospital Improvement District will meet MLA Stan Carnell to discuss next steps.
