Fire destroys Christmas Day dwelling of Phillip Brown

A creosote chimney fire on Christmas morning destroyed the Brown home and most contents. Firefighters arrived after 15 minutes, saving a few items including clothing, furniture, a TV, a stored box, and a Christmas turkey, while a nearby car was spared. Loss estimated at 4,000 to 5,000 dollars with no insurance.

Ken Wood rink wins spiel in two event bonspiel

Ken Wood led a rink to First Prize in a two event bonspiel held last weekend. Some complained of a plugged rink yet one team member had never curled before. The Turks tasted pretty good according to Ken and others. Results appear on page six.

Civic Night Jan 7 Citizen of the Year Event

The Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce hosts Civic Night at the Chetwynd Hotel dining room on Tuesday evening. Cocktails at 7 00 PM banquet at 8 00 PM with civic officials and possible out of town guests. the Citizen of the Year will be named at the banquet and receive a plaque.

Hotel Hosts New Year's Reception for Local Business Leaders

Mr. and Mrs Gordon Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sandy, and Mr. and Mrs. Art Kensit hosted about a hundred local businessmen and their wives at a hotel reception in the dining room on New Year’s Day. Refreshments preceded a buffet luncheon as a holiday gathering to foster better acquaintance and to meet the hotel owners.

New Year Celebrations Echo Community Festivity in Chetwynd

The town welcomed New Year with frolics at the legion hall and a Curling Club public frolic filling the Community Hall. About 150 guests attended the semi formal event with gowns and supper from Roundel Cafe. The Curling Club Orchestra played and the Fire Department hosted a New Year dance. Police reported few complaints with only one or two celebrants jailed and fined.

Legion to Install Officers in Chetwynd Hall

A combined meeting of the Chetwynd Branch Royal Canadian Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary will be held at the Legion Hall on Friday January 3. Installation of officers for both the Branch and Auxiliary will take place. Friends of the Legion and others are invited to attend. Refreshments and lunch will be served.
