German Lines Near Verdun and War Updates
The German lines sit about three miles from Verdun with Flury as a contested point. Since June 4, Russia reports 198,972 prisoners and 219 cannons captured, while Italy retakes Posina Arsiero and gains ground near Trent. Italy also uses steel nets to capture an Austrian submarine at Taranto. British bombardment continues with raids. one raid nets 46 prisoners with two losses. Col Roosevelt plans to raise 12,000 troops and seek a Major General commission if war with Mexico occurs. Twenty three US soldiers held in Mexico are ordered released.

Letter from the Front Describes Wounding of Son
Brown, Captain of the M. O. Sth Bat writes to LeRoy in Newnham about his son being wounded but not seriously. He notes ongoing fighting with Fritz and that the Fifth regiment maintains its prestige as Western regiments hold their line. He expects to hear from his son directly and signs with respect.

Saskatchewan Crop Report for 1916 Prospects Improve
The Saskatchewan Department of Agriculture released the fortnightly crop report showing strong growth in wheat oats barley and flax. Wheat stands nine to twelve inches high oats five to eight inches barley three to six inches with abundant soil moisture, though cutworms and frost browned wheat in Indian Head district temper prospects. Plowing of summer delayed by wet weather though estimate now shows at least thirty percent plowed. Uncertainty over binder twine supplies worries some farmers.
