Fragmentary OCR notes describe pre emptions and homestead purchases in districts with payment terms of five dollars, residence and employment rules during 1917, mentions of soldiers returning overseas and interior ministry actions, and a publication with non payment condition.
The report notes last week’s British and French prisoner totals. French forces gained twice in Flanders while British troops captured Westhoek near Ypres. The German advance on the Russian front slowed from prior sweep. British merchant ships sunk by submarines and mines totaled 21 over 1600 tons, 2 under 1600 tons, and one fishing vessel.
The Hospital Committee of Lakeside and Spalding met at Watson to decide on a municipal hospital. Quill Lake favored two 12 bed hospitals, one at Quill Lake and one at Watson, but later backed a single hospital at Watson after lengthy discussion.
The Quill Lake Red Crees Society held a supper and picnic on Aug Sed and raised over 60 dollars for the Fund. Mr John Alder bought the Sinclair and Shane store and traded his farm in the deal. Sinclair plans to leave for Alabama and neighbors fear their move may lead to future returns to Quill Lake in a few years. Mr J F Burnnett and family return to Quill Lake. Mr Barsen, former Lakeside Secretary treasurer, plans to start farming in the Quill Lake District.
