Before the war bond buyers were marked men with 40 000 purchasers in March 1917. By autumn the number surpassed 1 000 000 on the Victory Loan. Public press advertising educated Canadians about bonds and their safety. The campaign boosted ownership from one in two hundred to one in eight. Death of Bernice A Tweedie at 22

Bernice Anna Tweedie died December 13 at her mother's home after influenza. She was 22 years 11 months old. Survived by mother Mrs. Alice Tweedie, three sisters Mrs. Mary Nickason Mia Miriam Haladay Mrs. Mildred Laird, and brother Samuel Tweedie. Interment in Watrous cemetery Sunday with service by Rev J McLachlan.

Watrous Curling Club held a meeting Monday to elect skips and organize fourteen rinks for the season. Over fifty members attended, with enough signups to guarantee fifteen rinks. Ice will be ready soon and two games per night will start at 7 with three rinks in operation. A member telephone will be installed.

A Runaway Match in three acts will be staged at the Majestic Theatre on Tuesday December 31 with Chicago players and dances. Dick Austin stars in the action and performs The Swede and the Merry Widow sketch to conclude the evening.

The Rocky Hard Coal Company operates in the Alberta Coal Branch of the Grand Trunk Pacific on a hill 60 feet above rail level with a 400 foot coal face near Coalapar station, 47 miles south of Edson. High quality coal is shipped east to Winnipeg, and steam shovels load coal directly into cars.

Social Service Council Seeks Support Appeal
