BRISBANE The Minister for Transport Mr Walsh said the Combined Railway Unions president’s claim that railwaymen’s demands were being mocked was unfounded. No request for a deputation had been refused, and claims would be sympathetically considered. He planned a New Year tour of railway centres to assess conditions and housing issues in remote areas.
In Prince George snow fell as about five hundred troops confronted anti conscription protests. The Daily News reports British Columbia witnesses say soldiers marching past the city center aimed to return to Quebec homes amid Sagayd demonstrations.
In Canberra the House of Representatives will debate a Divan Of Censure aimed at the Government by Mr Menzies. Mr Forde indicated priority to Menzies motion, with proceedings to continue if the government’s invitation to adjourn is rejected. Speakers clashed over parliamentary procedure as the motion’s fate hung on the vote.
Two youths aged 20 and 17 from Sydney were jailed for four and two months hard labour for breaking into a mail truck on Nevinaer Ta and stealing across roads. Detective Buggy said they watched while Pye opened the truck and both entered. They claimed casual work and admitting to living by sly grog.

In Brisbane the Federal Arbitration Court heard evidence from the Australian Meat Industry Employees' Union seeking Saturday closure for retail butcher shops. Colin Clark of the War Organisation of Industry said many households lack refrigeration and relief is unlikely. Commodities and regional impact were discussed, with opposition citing burden on country people. the hearing was adjourned.

London reports British patrols crossed the Lamon River southwest of Faenza and reestablished contact with the enemy on high ground beyond. East of Lamon and south of Patna fighting has ended, but heavy clashes continue north of Faenza. No major Fifth Army offensive signs yet.
Townsville faced bread shortages after bakers refused to operate overnight. The city left without bread yesterday despite the $1 price remaining unchanged. Authorities had fined the previous rate, with the prior price noted at 5d.
London reports a massive explosion at an RAF bomb dump near Bart on Trent. Over 50 killed and many missing as warehouses and homes were obliterated. Rescue teams search rubble while eyewitnesses describe the devastation and huge cratered ground. Casualties include farmers and maintenance workers.
Two Canadian airmen on night patrol reported a V-2 rocket overshooting its Arnhem launch site and landing nearby. They said it likely destroyed the launching crew with an initial blast and observed the rocket soar thousands of feet before a second explosion.
